World Book Day 2026

Today we celebrated World Book Day and the importance of reading in our school. It was a great day in school as children came to school dressed as a character from a book. We started our day with a parade to show our fantastic costumes and our favourite books. Well done to all the boys and girls who put a great effort into dressing up today. Each classes celebrated World Book Day by doing different activities in the classes including making bookmarks and designing book covers. Pupils from 1st to 6th Class enjoyed a book quiz in the afternoon and it was great fun! We had a great day celebrating our love of reading!

Garda Visit

On Wednesday, we were fortunate to receive a visit from the Gardaí. Garda Carol and Garda Niamh spoke to the boys and girls about their role in the community. They spoke to the pupils about how to be safe when walking on the road, cycling their bike and travelling by car. They also spoke about their role in keeping people safe and helping people in need. They also spoke to the older pupils about staying safe online. The children really enjoyed the visit and had lots of questions for the Gardaí about their work! Thank you to Garda Carol and Garda Niamh for visiting our school!
February Wellbeing Assembly

On Monday, we held our Wellbeing Assembly for February. Pupils from each class received a 'Bí Cinealta Certificate' for showing kindness by being helpful to their peers, being kind to their friends and always trying to include others in their games and for being positive in their interactions with their peers. Lovely random acts of kindness from each classroom were read aloud by Ms. Cleere and Mrs. Fitzgerald. Well done to all the boys and girls in the school for their wonderful consideration of each other every day in school. Ms. Cleere and Mrs. Fitzgerald explained the 'Kindness Tree for Lent' and encouraged the boys and girls to colour the leaves on the tree each time they completed a random act of kindness during Lent. We will have lots of colourful trees in our school by Easter!
'Maths For Fun' Junior School 2026

Today marked the end of 'Maths for Fun' for this year in the Junior School. The Junior School have really enjoyed the 'Maths for Fun' every Tuesday morning for the last 4 weeks. The children had great fun playing maths games with their friends and have developed their mathematical skills. They really enjoyed rotating stations and playing a range of maths games over the four weeks. A sincere thank you to all the parents who volunteered over the last few weeks. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to next year already!

'The donkey Seller' Christmas Nativity

On Thursday night, the boys and girls gave a heart-warming performance of 'The Donkey Seller'. The donkey seller was bored until the passers by; Mary and Joseph, the shepherd and some posh kings arrive in need of a donkey to get them to Bethlehem. The donkey seller soon realises something special is going on in Bethlehem! The boys and girls sang and danced their way to Bethlehem to see the arrival of baby Jesus.
They were fantastic and we are very proud of them. Thank you to all our parents for supporting them on the night.

Planting our new hedge for biodiversity

With the help of Tom and Marie, the boys and girls planted the new hedge we won for our school from 'Coill na nÓg'. Earlier in December, 1st and 2nd class watched a webinar on the importance of trees for biodiversity. There were a variety of trees planted in the hedgerow which will help promote biodiversity in our school. Thanks to Marie and Tom for all their help in planting the hedgerow. We are looking forward to watching it grow over the coming years.

Marcus from Agri Aware visits during Science Week

Last Friday we were fortunate to have Marcus O'Halloran from Agri Aware come to the school to give a presentation about Agricultural Science and Farm Life to the Senior classes as part of Science week. Marcus gave a fantastic presentation and it was a privilege to have him visit the school.
Artist in schools Project Week 6
This week marked the end of our artist in schools project with artist, Katy Goodhue. Today the boys and girls constructed some mini beasts. The boys and girls really enjoyed making the mini beasts and decorating them. We are looking forward to our showcasing our wonderful artwork next Tuesday and Wednesday in Drangan Community Hall and all are welcome to come and see it.

This week we celebrated Science Week in our school. We began the week by looking at all the jobs that connected to Science. Then 1st and 2nd Class participated in an afternoon of Science Experiments. The experiments included 'Walking on Air', 'Dancing Raisins', 'The Skittles Experiment', 'Making a Lava Lamp', Making a Paper Clip Float' and 'Making a Ghost Dance'. The boys and girls really enjoyed the experiments and had great fun seeing Science in action!

The boys and girls continued working with artist Kathy this week. The children are developing a range of art skills from drawing to making constructions. The senior classes have made mini beasts and used printing techniques. The junior classes made clay bird's nest and used oil pastels to create a winter scene. Everyone is really enjoying working on the project 'Our native hedgerow and the future world'.

We have continued working with artist, Katy over the last few weeks and the boys and girls are all really enjoying the lessons! Fantastic artwork has been created across all the classes on the theme of our 'native hedgerow'. The children have taken part in drawing and printing lessons as well as using hessian to sew designs. The children's art skills are being fostered through the range of art projects.
Library Visit

1st, 2nd and 3rd Class enjoyed a trip to the library last Tuesday after swimming. They enjoyed story time and then they had the opportunity to browse the books themselves. The boys and girls could take home some books with them if they wished with their library cards. While we were visiting the library, the children were very lucky to meet an artist who was having an exhibition there too! Everyone really enjoyed the trip to the library!

Volcano workshop in 5th and 6th Class

5th and 6th Class enjoyed an exciting 'erupting volcano' workshop on Wednesday. They made their own volcanoes in groups and then created a chemical reaction to make the volcano erupt. Artist in schools Project

This week we started working with artist, Katy Goodhue as part of the Artist in Schools Project. It a fantastic opportunity for the children to engage with an artist. Katy built a story about our native hedgerow, explaining to boys and girls the importance of the hedgerow the interdependence of the plants and animals that live in it. Once Katy had finished building the story about the hedgerow, the children had the opportunity to draw their interpretation of the hedgerow using markers and tissue paper and oil pastels. The boys and girls really enjoyed the lessons and created wonderful masterpieces! We are all really looking forward to working with Katy for the next few weeks!
TIPPERARY ALL IRELAND HURLING CHAMPIONS VISIT OUR SCHOOL

We were delighted to welcome members of the Tipperary hurling team, Rhys Shelly and Alan Tynan with the Liam McCarthy Cup and the U20s James Nowlan Cup to our school today. Today we had our annual teddy bears' picnic and there was a great sense of excitement with all the teddies coming to school. 1st and 2nd Class read stories to the boys and girls in Junior and Senior Infants. We played a game of 'Teddy says...'. We also enjoyed musical statues and some dancing games. The rain didn't dampen our fun and all the boys and girls had a great time!

Today was our annual sports in the Junior School. We had a great day with lots of fun races and activities. We played lots of games and it was wonderful to see such great team spirit among the boys and girls.
RAISING OUR NEW 'BÍ CINÉALTA' FLAG
Today was a very special day in our school as we raised our new 'Bí Cineálta' flag. All the school gathered together on this special occasion to launch our children's 'Bí Cineálta' poster which shows the children's ideas of making our school a safe and happy place for everyone. Mrs. Fitzgerald explained the new 'Bí Cineálta' policy and got some of the children to show the poster which they had created. Mrs. Hayes read some of the wonderful kind gestures that the children are doing in our school. Mrs. Geraldine Meagher raised the flag and spoke to the children about the importance of being kind every day of our lives. The ceremony concluded with an ice-cream treat for everyone!

Zumba Show!

Children from Junior Infants to 6th Class performed Zumba dances for the whole school today. It was a wonderful show and the children really enjoyed watching the other classes perform. All the classes have been very lucky to have had Zumba classes with Rebecca for the last 6 weeks. The show was a huge highlight as the children got to show the other classes the dances they had learned. A special thank you to Rebecca for her excellent Zumba lessons.
School tour to kilkenny

Last Friday, Junior Infants to 2nd Class travelled to Kilkenny for their school tour. We had an early start for our exciting day out. The first stop was Kilkenny Castle, where we got a very interesting tour of the castle and learned some interesting facts. We had great fun playing in the park in the grounds of the castle. Then we went to Kilkenny Fire Station. We had great fun getting into the fire engine, using the hose and trying on part of the firefighter's uniform! Our last stop was the Playstation. All the children had a wonderful time playing together. Everyone really enjoyed the day!

Congratulations to the boys and girls in 2nd Class who received their First Holy Communion recently. They all worked really hard to prepare for their special day over the last few months and they all played a special part in their day. After school games club
1st and 2nd Class enjoyed 4 weeks of after school games club. Each Wednesday, the boys and girls enjoyed a range of indoor and outdoor activities including card games, board games, athletics, rounders and soccer. They had great fun playing with their friends. We were delighted to reach our whole school attendance target for term 2. As a reward, the children enjoyed a movie with some treats. The junior school also enjoyed their lunch outside. the Wonderful “Wizard of Oz” School Show

We have been following ‘the yellow brick road’ for the last weeks in St. Patrick’s N.S. The children in our school performed ‘The Wizard of Oz’ for 2 nights in the community hall. They were absolutely brilliant both nights. The audience received a treat in the fantastic acting and excellent singing on display. We are all so proud of the children’s wonderful performance. A sincere thank you to Ms. Dunne for producing and directing the school show. Well done to everyone!
Bake sale for daffodil day and Trocaire

This week we celebrated Engineers' Week in school. Junior and Senior Infants in Mrs. Fitzgerald's class went on a walk around the village and with the help of 5th and 6th Class they are creating some of the buildings in Drangan. They are the budding engineers of the future!
